quarterThe winter was so bad this year that I really thought we had lost several perennials in our yard. We did lose a beautiful clematis plant at our rental property in New Bedford. It broke my heart. We have two clematis plants by our front porch, a white spring bloomer and a fuchsia colored summer bloomer; I thought we’d lost the summer bloomer for sure. So happy me when I realized this week that we were getting fuchsia blooms.

Clematis returns

My other happy realizations today were about my dad. We leave for Greece tomorrow and I’ve never been a light packer. I’ve been waffling about whether to bring my laptop or take notes on my kindle fire and send out the blogs when we get home. Last night I decided I didn’t want to be without the Mac, which means a larger carry-on bag than I was planning. So I grabbed one of my totes and was cleaning out the stuff that always seems to hang around in my bags when I put them away and I found a quarter. On the way back from an errand today I pulled the car into the yard to find a blue jay sitting on my fence. Finding quarters and seeing blue jays are my clues that my dad is around me, and it always makes me happy to know he is. I don’t know if the hereafter has Wi-Fi, but I’m sure somehow he read my blog.

quarter1Food today has been interesting; the week in review, as it were, as we’re trying to use up whatever is perishable before we leave. A low fat hot dog, a deviled egg made with lowfat mayo, and steamed summer squash for lunch. Not a combo I’d usually throw together. Tonight I have to do something with an eggplant. And I’m weighing in tomorrow, a day early, to get one last data point before we leave…

We’re off on our Grecian adventure tomorrow; I promise to blog but don’t know when I’ll be able to post, so stay tuned!
