The artist Anita Poyant lives in a beautiful house on a pond in the north end of New Bedford. This old community was once nothing but summer cottages but has evolved into a year-round neighborhood of homes both old and new, with some of those cottages winterized and permanent, and a mix of all ages of folks. Young families share the pond with retirees and everyone in between. Anita’s house sits in the perfect location – she has a road in front of her house and the water immediately past that; no chance of a structure ever being built to block her view. And she takes advantage of that view to paint her pond, the sunsets, the birds and anything else that catches her fancy.
Anita said she always had a sketchpad in her hands as a young girl and dreamt of being a fashion designer. We all know that life happens while you’re making other plans, and her life went in a different direction, but she found the medium that suited her; oil paints. That being said she still uses watercolors, pencil, woodcuts and acrylics when the subject suits them. She is a member of the Bierstadt Art Society and has won awards and had showings at many local galleries.
My photos don’t do them justice, but here is a glimpse of the beautiful work of this very talented artist.

Tell Anita to come vacation at Pine Point in Scarborough Maine… Would love some local paintings of this area for our cottage… Sounds like New Bedford has a similar history to Pine Point… She does wonderful work! 🙂 Thanks for sharing Deb!
Very attracted to the empty chair, abandoned book and sun hat…as if the reader has HAD to follow that sunset…
Thanks, Deb, for sending these along. Lovely ! Send along my congrats!
