I think Trombone Shorty only comes to New England when it rains. The first time we saw him was at the Newport Jazz Festival in 2014 and it poured the whole day, letting up just before he came on stage. Today we had heavy rain and wind, but luckily the venue was warm and dry; our beloved Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, which books high quality acts from plays to musicians, dance troupes to the Christmas Celtic Soujourn. My friend Jinx and I are attending The Moth there next week, the live stage arm of The Moth Radio Hour on NPR. The venue is small and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. We’re lucky to have such a gem in our area.
I LOVE, capitol L-O-V-E, Trombone Shorty. When he struts on stage with his big ol’ trombone, his sunglasses and his 10,000 megawatt smile you can’t help but get on your feet and cheer. And his music keeps you on your feet the whole time. Even his band is having the time of their lives. The drummer, Joey Peebles, smiled the entire night. For 2 1/2 minutes of on your feet, blood pumping happiness watch the clip below. And TURN IT UP!
Shorty, nee Troy Andrews, is using his fame and fortune to give back to the youth of his native New Orleans through the Trombone Shorty Foundation. Gotta love a guy who gives as good as he gets.
To help New Bedford celebrate Mardi Gras he and his band took to the aisles with a rousing rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In”.

So before the Lenten season begins I suggest we all Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler!
Happy Mardi Gras everyone!
Note to Phil: The guitarist was SMOKIN’!
Take care,
Steve
Didn’t know you were there, Cuz. Manny was given our tickets by Marcus and Deb for his birthday back in Oct. This was his first outing since his back surgery, and what an outing it was. So much fun!
