I’ve been in Mexico for 10 days and have missed the nasty weather the northeast has been experiencing. But Steve has been home, riding out the storms and keeping the home fires burning. The text exchange we had during the worst of it was quite hysterical.

Steve: Did you know Citizen’s Bank was moving to the old Pizza Hut building near WalMart? You get a free slice of pizza with every deposit and a can of Coke if the deposit is over $2000.

Me: How’s the weather?

Steve: Rain is coming down almost sideways due to wind and I hear sirens in the distance.

Me: OMG! Stay in and stay safe.

Steve: I think I’ll sail my model sailboat in Candida’s backyard.

Me: STAY INSIDE! Did you lose power?

Steve: No, we were lucky because a couple hundred thousand did. I took the ladder and went up the pole to make sure the wire was clamped on tightly. All around me were drowned squirrels floating down the water filled streets with their legs up in the air, some with walnuts still in their mouths. It was horrific.

Me: The squirrels got proper burials, I hope.

Steve: No. I think they went down the storm drain. I was able to save a few and they are in the guest room.

Me: Good. There are extra blankets in my closet.

Steve: Send more walnuts! All out!

He is a crazy man, and I love that he can make me laugh out loud. He’s joining me today so we can celebrate his 60th Birthday (March 12th) in sunny Mexico. All he asked for was a bottle of Champagne and dinner at Nik-San’s, our favorite sushi restaurant.

I can do that.

Feliz cumpleaños 60 Esteban! Te amo!
