You all know I’ve been celebrating my 60th birthday since about mid-summer. The actual date was Thanksgiving, 11/23 and the dance party was the night after. And what a great birthday celebration it all was.
Having my brother from another mother, Mark, and his wife Jan here for the holiday was so special and I would love it to be an annual event. We entered the Fairhaven Turkey Trot 5 K on Thanksgiving morning with my friend Cheryl of Fabrika fame (go to her site – her work is incredible. Or just come see my drapes!) It was a cold but gorgeous morning to stroll through Fairhaven and made me feel a little less bad about what I knew I’d consume the rest of the day, beginning with my annual birthday breakfast: everything bagels with cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onion and capers. We watched a bit of the parade once the bird and the fresh ham were in the oven, and then got ready for our guests.
It was a small gathering, at least for us. Thirteen guests attended – friends who are family and family who are friends – all bringing their delightful side dishes, desserts, and napkin folding skills, not to mention stories and news. It was a relaxed, delicious and fun filled day with lots of wine. Mark caught me the next morning with a large glass of orange juice leaning against the kitchen counter. “A little dehydrated?” he asked.

Party night we descended upon the VFW en masse, with an amazing chocolate cake, glow stick wristbands, and our dancing shoes. Friends from near and far helped me celebrate 60 and The Parts Unknown Band kept us all hopping on the dance floor.

We all moved pretty well for a bunch people with hip replacements, bad knees and various forms of arthritis. I’m sure the alcohol helped. They say You’re As Old As You Feel, and I’m guessing a bunch of us felt our actual age the next day.
Pass the ice pack.
Such a wonderful dance party (and that band you found…wow, were they good!) And has anyone ever seen a more majestic and beautiful birthday cake? i think not…!
Debra…..CONGRATULATIONS on a WOWIE! Great 60th Birthday. Your planning and delivery of a fine party are always well done. I wish we could have come but I was dancing for you in good spirit. Continue on now as “Super 60” and enjoy the year coming up. We Love You!
